Beachcomber's Gold (Hollywood and Palm Springs)

Material Components

  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce sugar syrup
  • 1 ounce aged column still rum
  • 1/4 ounce lightly aged pot still rum
  • 1/4 ounce aged pot still rum
  • 6 drops pernod
  • 4 drops almond extract
  • 2 ounces crushed ice

Preparation

  1. Put everything into a blender.
  2. Blend at high speed for no more than five seconds.
  3. Strain through a fine-mesh wire seive into a coupe glass lined with an "ice shell" forming a hood over the glass.
  4. Serve with short straws.

Notes

Dating back to 1937, this version of the Beachcomber's classic puts the OG in gold. Donn Beach's style shines brightly, with the subtly medicinal combination of Pernod and almond extract harmonizing nicely with a rhapsody of rums.

Rums used: Privateer New England White Rum, Privateer Amber Queen's Share, and Pusser's Blue Label.
