Gourmet Coffee Grog

Material Components

  • 24 ounces coffee
  • 4 ounces heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 twist orange peel
  • 1 twist lemon peel
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 pinch clove
  • 6 ounces lightly aged column still rum

Preparation

  1. Cream two teaspoons butter with two tablespoons brown sugar.
  2. Sprinkle with a pinch each of salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. Put one teaspoon of this mixture, one-inch twists of lemon and orange peel, and one and a half ounces of rum into each of four six-ounce pre-warmed mugs.
  4. Stir well.
  5. Add one ounce cream to each mug.
  6. Fill with hot coffee.
  7. Stir to blend, and serve immediately.
