Hawaiian Eye

Material Components

  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce falernum
  • 1/2 ounce sugar syrup
  • 1 1/2 ounces lightly aged column still rum
  • 8 ounces crushed ice

Vessel

tulip glass or Hawaii Eye mug

Garnish

pineapple spear and an orchid

Preparation

  1. Put everything in a blender.
  2. Blend at high speed for five seconds.
  3. Pour unstrained into a tulip glass or a Hawaii Eye mug.

Notes

This light and refreshing tincture and the spectacular mug holding it were both named for a popular detective series of the '60s. I don't know about the TV show but I'd be happy to tune into one of these cocktails every Wednesday night.

This Hawaiian Eye mug by Kevin Kidney was part of a limited run of 100 and I was lucky enough so snap one up in mint condition. The seller said it had never been used, which is a damn shame. To remedy that situation, I used some Bacardi 1909 Superior Heritage, itself a limited edition and one of the nicest light column still rums I've tried.
