Notes

This is some Category 5 hooch. The home of the hurricane is New Orleans, but you'll be better off making this gale-force cocktail yourself. The classic combo of fassionola (or passion fruit), lemon, and rum is easy to make and is sure to get your wind up.

I tried this with a New Orleans blended rum for authenticity, but it was unpalatable. So I settled on 3.5 ounces of Plantation Xaymaca and a 0.5 ounce float of Lemon Hart Original 1804 for a touch of added character. The version from Beachbum Berry uses passion fruit syrup, but I opted for fassionola, which some say was used in the original. Whatever the truth of that, I love the Hawaiian Punch flavor in this drink and the red color more closely matches what you'll find on Bourbon Street (but 1000x tastier).
