Mai Tai Swizzle (Don the Beachcomber)
Material Components
- 1 ounce grapefruit juice
- 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau
- 1/4 ounce falernum
- 1 1/2 ounces aged blended rum
- 1 ounce aged column still rum
- 6 drops pernod
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
Vessel
double old fashioned glass
Garnish
four mint sprigs
Preparation
- Shake well with crushed ice.
- Pour unstrained into a double old fashioned glass.
- Garnish with four mint sprigs.
Notes
Trader Vic's Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai may be "the best" (far as I'm concerned). But Donn Beach knew his business, and this variation of the most famous exotic cocktail is no exception. My advice? Avoid the comparison and call it something else in your head when you drink it. No one has to know.
Rums used: Don Q Signature Release 2005 and Havana Club 7 Year Old.
