Mai Tai (Trader Vic)

Material Components

  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce orange Curaçao
  • 1/4 ounce orgeat syrup
  • 1/4 ounce sugar syrup
  • 1 ounce aged pot still rum
  • 1 ounce rhum agricole vieux

Vessel

double old fashioned glass

Garnish

mint sprig

Preparation

  1. Shake well with plenty of crushed ice.
  2. Pour unstrained into a double old fashioned glass.
  3. Sink the spent lime shell into drink.
  4. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Notes

Tahitian for "The best!", this original Trader Vic recipe is a blend of fresh juices, rum, and a housemade orgeat.

Taking a cue from Martin Cate, I used nothing but Denizen Merchant's Reserve for the rum this time around and I have to say, it's my favorite way to Mai Tai.
