Pearl Diver's Punch

Material Components

  • 1 1/2 ounces aged column still rum
  • 3/4 ounce aged blended rum
  • 1/2 ounce lightly aged pot still rum
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 ounce Don's gardenia mix
  • 1 teaspoon falernum
  • 6 ounces crushed ice

Garnish

tropical leaf or pineapple frond and an edible orchid

Preparation

  1. Put everything into a blender (Don's gardenia mix first; ice last).
  2. Blend at high speed for 15 seconds—no more, no less.
  3. Strain through a fine-mesh wire sieve into a Pearl Diver glass.
  4. Press gently on solids to squeeze out all liquid into glass (discarding solids).
  5. Add crushed ice to fill glass.

Notes

This drink requires a bit of patience, but if you can hold your breath and hold off the reef sharks, you might just come up with a lustrous treasure for your efforts!

For Don's gardenia mix (Pearl Diver mix), cream 1 ounce unsalted butter and 1 ounce orange blossom honey with 1 teaspoon cinnamon syrup and 0.5 teaspoon each vanilla syrup and pimento dram.
