Planter's Punch

Material Components

  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce sugar syrup
  • 1/2 ounce lightly aged pot still rum
  • 1/2 ounce aged pot still rum
  • 1 ounce aged column still rum
  • 1/2 teaspoon grenadine
  • 1/2 teaspoon falernum
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 6 ounces crushed ice

Preparation

  1. Put everything in a blender.
  2. Blend at high speed for no more than five seconds.
  3. Pour unstrained into a tall glass.
  4. If necessary, add more ice to fill glass.

Notes

This is OG Tiki at its best, with roots in the Caribbean and varying accounts of its origins across the US. But it was Donn Beach's elaboration on the "holy trinity" of lime, rum, and sugar that sealed the drink's place in the annals of exotic cocktail history.
