Samoan Fog Cutter

Material Components

  • 2 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce orgeat syrup
  • 1/2 ounce brandy
  • 1/2 ounce gin
  • 1 1/2 ounces lightly aged column still rum
  • 1/2 ounce cream sherry
  • 8 ounces crushed ice

Preparation

  1. Put everything—except sherry—in a blender.
  2. Blend for up to ten seconds.
  3. Pour unstrained into a Fog Cutter mug.
  4. If necessary, add more ice to fill.
  5. Float sherry.

Notes

Slight tweaks can make or break a cocktail. By dialing back the rum and brandy in the Fog Cutter, Trader Vic brought his famous drink into a delightfully smooth balance. The Samoan Fog Cutter is my favorite version of the classic.
